“Ruyman Rey – Majorero de Voz y Alma” is an intimate portrait of one of Fuerteventura’s most respected bodyboarders.
More than an athlete, Ruymán is a guardian of his island’s culture, a man whose life reflects the deep connection between the ocean, identity, and the land he calls sacred.
Through personal reflections and raw imagery of Fuerteventura’s coastline, the film explores his journey from a local kid riding bodyboards to surfing some of the heaviest waves on the planet.
It also examines the island’s complex relationship with tourism, an economy that supports Ruyman's livelihood, yet threatens the fragile beauty he dedicates his life to protect.
The result is a film about belonging, responsibility, and the power of the ocean to shape a person’s voice and soul.
Ruyman Rey - Majorero de Voz y Alma is currently touring international film festivals and is not publicly available online.
The film is scheduled for an online release in 2026.
Until then, it will continue to be presented through curated festival screenings worldwide.

Mario Andrade is a Portuguese filmmaker and founder of JZ Media, working across documentary film and photography with a focus on stories shaped by the ocean, identity and place.
Raised in a small coastal village in Portugal, Mario developed a deep connection with the sea long before he ever touched a camera.

Entirely self-taught, Mario refined his visual language through observation, patience and lived experience, evolving from beginner to professional cinematographer and editor.
Today, his work spans independent documentary films and commercial productions for global brands.
His films are defined by natural light, emotional authenticity and a deep respect for local cultures and environments.
Ruyman Rey – Majorero de Voz y Alma stands as one of his most personal works, a tribute to the island, the community and the stories that give a place its voice.
